Interfaith Women Gather to Create Art at PUP

Muslim, Jewish and Christian women are gathering at the Pico-Union Project to engage in an interfaith art process. An introductory workshop in October created a safe space for the dialogue. The participants explored the overlap between significant prayers of faith in the three traditions. The completed art pieces were transformed, in a ritual of light and blessing, into lamps that illuminate the work these women are undertaking.
For five months the women are creating imagery to explore the stories of Eve, Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Ishmael, Isaac and Miriam as discussed in the Torah, the Quran and the Scriptures. The group is excited to witness the extraordinary power of reclaiming (with creativity and authentic interfaith dialogue) the sacred texts.

The project is facilitated by Dr. Debra Linesch (Loyola Marymount University professor/Temple Israel of Hollywood congregant) and Edina Lekovic (Director of Policy & Programming at the Muslim Public Affairs Council).
